Penny's Puppies (Updated 1/23/2018)

We find out next week (1/31/2018), via ultrasound, how many puppies our little Penny will have. Penny is our 23 pound Moyen Poodle who is now about two and a half years old - give or take a few weeks.

Here is a picture of her when we first picked her up. (She's the furry one on the right!)

For those of you unfamiliar with Moyen Poodles, in size they are between a Standard Poodle and a MIniature Poodle. The AKC does not recognize Moyens as a distinct breed class, so technically, according to the AKC, Penny is a Standard Poodle. Moyens are not a cross between a standard poodle and a miniature poodle; they are their own type/size and are bred for that size.

Here, Penny is playing and sleeping with her friend, Pupcake - our family F1 Goldendoodle. Pupcake weighs about 52 pounds and would be considered a "normal sized" Goldendoodle. You can see the difference in sizes. (They are best of friends, as you can tell.)

I'll post some more pictures of Penny on "Our Mommy Dogs" page/tab - CLICK HERE.

The Daddy dog for Penny's puppies is "Billy." He lives about an hour or two north of us, and lives with a retired Schoolteacher/Grandpa. Billy weighs about 35 pounds, although I have it on good authority that if Grandpa walked him outside a little more, they would both weigh a little less. The two of them are dear friends.

We chose Billy because he is a miniature F1 Goldendoodle. That means, when mixed with Penny's pure Poodle, the puppies will be F1b Goldendoodles. I expect her puppies will grow to about 30 pounds and, because they are F1b Goldendoodles, they will be almost totally allergy free, and non-shedding.

We usually say that F1 Goldendoodles are "low-to-no" shedding dogs (like our Pupcake, they are 50% poodle and 50% Golden Retriever). By breeding an F1 Goldendoodle, like Billy, to a Poodle, we get an F1b Goldendoodle with "even less" shedding than a regular Goldendoodle.

Oh, I almost forgot to post pictures of Billy. Here he is:

We expect Penny's puppies to be born about March 13, and would then be ready to go to their new home (your home?) about the second week of May. Typically about 8 weeks after they are born.

Stay tuned! We will have more details next week as we learn how many puppies Penny is expecting.
